Assembly Election 2016:Counting of votes begins in five states

May 19, 2016: The day of result-Thursday, today counting of votes began in Kerala,Tamil Nadu, Assam and West Bengal and a union territory, Puducherry .

In Assam, the method began at 51 centers at 8 am where a total of 1,064 candidates were in the fray for the 120 seats.The election was held to elect new 140 members assembly in Kerala, the process began with the over 1 Lakh postal ballots cast in the May 16 election. A total of 1,203 contestants, counting 109 women, are in the battle.

The main fight is broadly supposed to be between Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's AIADMK and the DMK-Congress alliance.

On the West Bengal, the counting of millions of votes cast in the polls started at 90 counting centers athwart the state at 8 am to decide the fate of 1,961 candidates, involving 198 women.

Approx 82.80 % of the 6.55 crore electorate voted in the elections held from April 4 to May 5 to elect a 294-member assembly.

A total of 294 counting spectator have been organized along with 78 companies of central forces.

The party led by Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee-The ruling Trinamool Congress and the Left Front-Congress party are the key contenters for power.The BJP is racing in 291 seats.

In Puducherry, the counting initiated at 8 am and the main battle is between the Congress-DMK combine and the ruling All India NR Congress (AINRC).

And finally the last one is Tamil Nadu, counting of votes started at 8 am across all the counting centers to elect 232 legislators. Polling has been put off in two constituencies: Thanjavur and Aravakurichi.
