New Delhi: For the assembly elections to be held in 5 states, the Election Commission has announced the suspension of all types of public meetings till January 15. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra has said that political parties are suggested to do their campaign digitally only. He has said that after which the situation will be reviewed and new instructions are to be issued, till then there will be no pad yatra, cycle yatra or roadshow.

At the same time, the Commission also informed that the limit on election expenditure for candidates has been increased in view of the digital medium of campaigning. According to the Election Commission, candidates contesting elections will also be given the option to file nominations online. In view of the situation in Corona, the Election Commission said that all polling stations will have corona protection facilities like sanitisers and masks, increasing the number of voting centres.

Before announcing the election dates, Chandra said, "Sure, there is a way out, even the oat of the air burns the lamp. We should be confident that we will go out of this epidemic by adopting our safety standards. No political party or potential nominees or any group will be allowed to hold a physical rally until January 15. New instructions will be issued after reviewing the situation."
