KOCHI: In response to the devastating landslide in Wayanad, Aster DM Healthcare has stepped up to support the affected communities with a substantial aid package. The organization has announced a relief fund of Rs 4 crore to assist those impacted by what is being described as Kerala's worst landslide disaster to date.

Of the total fund, Rs 1.5 crore will be contributed directly to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. The remaining Rs 2.5 crore will be allocated for the rehabilitation of individuals who have lost their homes. Many of the disaster survivors are currently receiving medical treatment at Dr Moopen's Medical College, formerly known as DM Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences. The hospital, under the leadership of Aster DM Healthcare's chairman and managing director, Dr. Azad Moopen, is providing free treatment and medical support to all affected individuals.

Upon hearing of the landslide early Tuesday morning, the medical staff at Moopen's Medical College quickly mobilized to address the emergency. To date, 173 patients have been admitted, with 62 still undergoing treatment. Seven individuals are in the intensive care unit, and 20 have undergone emergency surgeries. The hospital has expanded its ward capacity and increased staffing, including forensic surgeons, as requested by the district administration. The government’s swift provision of additional medical equipment has been instrumental in managing the crisis.

Teams from various Aster hospitals, including Aster Medicity and Aster MIMS, arrived in the disaster area on Tuesday morning. An Aster Volunteers team is actively participating in rescue efforts at Chooralmala and near Mundakkai. They are also distributing essential supplies such as food and drinking water. This team is working closely with the National Disaster Response Force to aid in the rescue operations.

Reports have emerged that some Aster employees are missing, and efforts are underway to locate and safely return them. Aster DM Healthcare has committed to providing all necessary support to the affected employees and their families.

Dr. Azad Moopen, Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, expressed his gratitude to the state government for allowing the Aster team to contribute to the rescue efforts during this challenging time. He assured that every effort would be made to support the people affected by this disaster.
