New Delhi: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat has said that China is currently the biggest threat to India's security. He said at a media event that thousands of soldiers and weapons sent to guard the border last year will not be able to return to the base for a long time. Bipin Rawat said the border dispute between the two nuclear-armed neighbouring countries (India-China) is not being resolved due to lack of "trust" and growing "suspicion". Last month, the 13th round of discussions between Indian and Chinese military commanders ended with a deadlock, as both sides could not agree on how to withdraw from the border.

It may be recalled that after the most violent conflict between India and Chinese troops last year in four decades, the focus of the PM Narendra Modi-led government has shifted from the enemy country of Pakistan to China. According to the report, 20 Indian soldiers were killed in the clash on the 3,488-kilometer (2,170-mile) border last year. While four Chinese soldiers lost their lives. It is also said that China hid the death of its soldiers and the actual number was about 40.

CDS Rawat said that since the conflict along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh, China and India have been rapidly expanding troops, weapons and infrastructure along the border. He said India is fully prepared to deal with any presumptuousness in the border and sea. Let's say CDS said this at a time when the Ministry of External Affairs has criticized Chinese construction in the disputed area. Rawat said, 'The Chinese are probably settling villages near the border. Where civilians can be settled in the future or used as army bases.'
