Ather Reduced The Price Of Its Electric Scooters, Here's Why

Ather Energy has announced a reduction in the prices of its electric scooter range. On-road prices of Ather 340 and 450 have been cut by rs 9000. The prices have come down from 12 per cent to 5 per cent on electric vehicles since August 1. Ather 340 prices are Rs 1.02 lakh, while ather 450 prices are Rs 1.13 lakh (ex-showroom Bangalore). The Ather 340 in Chennai is priced at Rs 1.10 lakh and the Ather 450 is priced at Rs 1.22 lakh (on-road).

The new GST rates were proposed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to the GST Council under the Union Budget 2019. The new rates were approved late last month. The new rates of GST are an important step towards faster adoption of electric vehicles by the government. FAME II is intended to weft electric vehicles with subsidies to adopt lower rates in the market on a near scale. The reduction in the new GST rates will affect sales in India on other electric vehicles, including Okinawa Scooters, Revolt Motors and much more. Sales of the recently launched Hyundai Kona Electric have also decreased by Rs 1.40 lakh on-road prices.

According to media reports, Ather Energy started selling in its domestic market - Bangalore last year, while operations began in Chennai early this year. The company plans to expand its presence to other 30 cities including Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Delhi NCR by 2023. Ather 450 is a company's flagship product and delivers a range of up to 75 km once charged. It also features navigation, park assist, and more with a touchscreen display. The scooter produces 20.5 Nm of peak torque and is equipped with a lithium-ion battery.
