Lucknow: On September 28, 2023, the Uttar Pradesh police's special task force made a significant arrest, apprehending Abdul Saddam, an active member of the notorious Atiq Ahmad gang. The arrest took place in Delhi, where Saddam had gone to meet his girlfriend. Notably, Saddam is the brother-in-law of the infamous mafia leader Ashraf Ahmed and had a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head.
Abdul Saddam faced legal troubles with two cases registered against him in Bareilly. One case was filed at the Bithari Chainpur police station for an illegal meeting with Ashraf, and the other at the Baradari police station for fraudulent activities related to a house and theft. Saddam had been on the run in both these cases, and the Additional Director General had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to his capture. According to Special DG of Law and Order, Prashant Kumar, Abdul Saddam was arrested around 2 a.m. from a DDA apartment near the Select City Walk mall in Delhi's Malviya Nagar while he was visiting his girlfriend, Anam.
Recently, the Bithari Chainpur police initiated the process of attaching Saddam's properties and posted a notice under Section 82 at his house in Prayagraj. Various police teams had been tirelessly working to locate and apprehend him. The STF unit in Bareilly successfully arrested Saddam from Delhi's Malviya Nagar area on Thursday. During interrogation, Abdul Saddam disclosed that he had been frequently moving between different locations in Delhi, Karnataka, and Maharashtra to evade arrest. He had been living in Khushbu Enclave, Bareilly, at the time when his brother-in-law Ashraf was incarcerated in the Bareilly jail.
Earlier, images of Abdul Saddam in Dubai had circulated, leading to speculations that he had fled the country. However, the police clarified that these Dubai photos were outdated, and Saddam had intentionally shared them on social media to mislead law enforcement regarding his whereabouts. In reality, he had been residing in Delhi for an extended period, continually changing his location. Based on intelligence inputs, the STF successfully arrested him in Delhi. The gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed met a tragic end when they were shot at close range by three individuals posing as journalists. This incident occurred while police personnel were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a medical examination on April 15, 2023.
