Unilever has recalled several popular brands of aerosol dry shampoo, including Dove. This action has been taken in the US market. Samples of a dangerous chemical named benzene have been found in many of the company's shampoo brands, due to which the fear of causing cancer was very high. The company has sourced several dry shampoos from the US market including Dove, Nexxus, Suave, Tigi and Tresemme Aerosol. According to a notice posted on the Food and Drug Administration's website, the recall includes brands such as Nexus, Suave, Tresme and Tigi, which manufacture Rockaholic and Bed Head dry shampoo.

Recall products before 2021: Reports say that Unilever has recalled all products manufactured before October 2021. This news has once again raised questions about the safety of personal care products. In the past year and a half, there have been reports of several aerosol sunscreens such as Johnson & Johnson's Neutrogena, and Edgewell Personal Care Company's Banana Boat. Some reports suggest that P&G recalled its Pantene and Herbal Essence dry shampoo in December last year citing a mixture of benzene.

Risk of blood cancer: According to the Collins dictionary, dry shampoo is the same as powder or spray. These types of products are usually used to clean the hair without wetting it. This isn't the first time that spray-on dry shampoo has been questioned. The company has not released the amount of benzene found in the products. But Unilever has said that it has carefully recalled all products.

The Food and Drug Administration has said that daily exposure to benzene in the recalled products is expected to cause adverse health consequences. Bloomberg quoted the agency as saying that exposure to benzene has increased the risk of developing leukaemia and other blood cancers even more. Last year, Procter & Gamble recalled 30 more aerosol spray haircare products. Including dry shampoo and conditioner. The company has warned of the presence of benzene in these products.
