SYDNEY: An Indian student of 28-year- age from Agra is in critical condition after being stabbed multiple times to his chest, face and abdomen in an apparent 'racial attack' in Australia on October 6.

About 10.30 p.m., Shubham Garg, a mechanical engineering PhD candidate at the University of New South Wales, was strolling along the Pacific Highway on his way home.

Daniel Norwood, a 27-year-old man, was detained there and escorted to the Chatswood Police Station where he was booked on one count of attempted murder.
When Norwood appeared in Hornsby Local Court, bail was rejected. He will continue to be held until his next court date on December 14, according to  the report from The Australia Today.

Norwood is accused of threatening Garg and requesting money and his phone. The Australia Today cited local media reports as claiming that when the victim refused, the attacker allegedly stabbed him many times in the abdomen before fleeing. The attack on Garg, according to his relatives, was "racist." According to local media sources, his parents claimed they tried to obtain an Australian visa for more than a week without success.

"My brother Shubham Garg, 28, from Uttar Pradesh, is in severe condition after being stabbed 11 times in Sydney, Australia. We urgently need your assistance in this situation and a family member's emergency visa "The victim's sister, Kavya Garg, tweeted on October 12. 

Agra DM Navneet Chahal was cited in the media as saying that the victim's brother's visa application is in progress and that the administration is working with the Ministry of External Affairs.Chahal stated that he has spoken to Sydney's embassy representatives about obtaining a visa.
