Australia : Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced on Thursday that Australia had set a new record for Covid-19 booster shots, following a number of record-breaking days of rising illnesses across the country.

On Wednesday, a total of 222,565 booster immunizations were given out, just two days after the population's minimum recommended time between second and third injections was cut from five to four months, he said. The vaccine will be available to youngsters aged five to eleven on January 10th.

On Thursday, Australia announced a new high of more than 70,000 coronavirus cases and 13 deaths, marking the fourth day in a row that the country had established a new infection record. The new numbers bring the total number of infections and deaths to 684,614 and 2,302, respectively.

Morrison announced a plan to make rapid antigen testing (RATs) free for pension and welfare users on Wednesday evening, citing supply shortages caused by record demand. Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese reacted to the announcement by saying it was "too little, too late."

"If you don't plan ahead of time, you're intending to fail. That's exactly what we're witnessing here. We're witnessing Australians who are worried about their health and the health of their families "On Thursday, he told Australian Broadcasting Corporation TV.
