Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese arrived in Philadelphia on Thursday ahead of the Quad Summit scheduled for September 21 in Delaware. He emphasized that the four democracies—India, Australia, Japan, and the United States—are dedicated to ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

Albanese expressed his eagerness to discuss various issues with fellow leaders, including "my friend Prime Minister Modi." He described the Quad as a crucial body committed to security in the region, stating, "This is an opportunity to talk directly to the leaders of the United States, India, and Japan."

The discussions will focus on three main themes: security, stability, and opportunity. Albanese noted that the Quad aims to provide support to developing nations, particularly in terms of climate change and energy security. He reiterated that peace and stability require active efforts, saying, "You've got to work on it."

China's activities in the region are expected to be a significant topic at the summit. John Kirby, National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications, mentioned that discussions about China would be "high on the agenda." Albanese acknowledged the strategic competition posed by China but emphasized that the focus would remain on the cooperative efforts among the Quad nations to ensure security and stability.

In light of the upcoming U.S. presidential elections, Albanese stated that the Quad relationship is built on shared values and not solely on individual leaders. He expressed confidence that U.S.-Australia relations would endure, regardless of political changes in the U.S.

"The relationship between our two nations was forged during World War Two, and it continues to strengthen," Albanese remarked. He highlighted the collaboration on defense projects, showcasing the deep ties between Australia and the United States.

The Quad consists of four nations—India, Australia, Japan, and the United States—united in their commitment to promoting a free and inclusive Indo-Pacific. India is set to host the Quad Leaders' Summit in 2025.
