Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has made a big statement on Saturday. "Top executives of automobile companies have promised them that they will start manufacturing Flex Fuel vehicles within six months. Addressing the ET Global Business Summit via video conference, Gadkari said, "The government is working on a plan to run public transport from 100 per cent clean energy sources. Ethanol is added 20% to petrol, which makes it a blended fuel and it is available at about half the price compared to normal petrol.''
"This week, I had a meeting with the managing directors of all the big automobile companies and the representatives of SIAM. They promised me that they would start manufacturing flex-fuel engines for vehicles that could run on more than one fuel. Apart from this, if union minister Gadkari is to be believed, then according to him, soon most of the vehicles in India will run on 100 per cent ethanol. Yes, he says that the government is working to encourage the use of green hydrogen and other alternative fuels.
Flex-fuel is an alternative fuel prepared from a mixture of gasoline and methanol or ethanol. In such a situation, he said that companies like TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto have already started manufacturing flex-fuel engines for two-wheelers and three-wheelers. Not only this, the Union Minister, while giving further information at the conference, also said that the government is working on a ski scheme to convert public transport into 100 per cent clean energy sources. At present, petrol with ethanol blend is being found in many places in Maharashtra, the price of which is claimed to be less than 70 rupees per litre.
