FASTag has been implemented across the country from December 15. The FASTag system has been implemented to get rid of long queues at toll points on vehicles on national highways. At present, FASTag will be deducted through ETC only on 75% toll lanes instead of 100% on toll plazas. On the remaining 25 per cent of the lanes, vehicles will be able to travel by paying toll manually. Earlier there was talk of keeping only one cash lane at the toll point and collecting double tax on passing it.

However, the order for charging double tolls on entering ETC lanes without FASTag vehicles has not been changed. That is, if the untagged car comes in the FASTag lane, then they will have to pay double. The Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry has asked the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on Saturday to maintain this arrangement for the next 30 days i.e. 15 January.

It is to be noted that authorized banks can charge a maximum of Rs 100 for issuing FASTag. It has been decided by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Banks, while first purchasing from FASTag's purchaser, charge a balance amount and maintainable funds in the account, along with a security fund and other charges. However, the actual charge of issuing the tag is decided by the banks. This is different for different banks.
