According to research, scientists in Australia have successfully experimented with separating hydrogen from water. Scientists separate oxygen from water to absorb hydrogen. This can be achieved by using low-cost metals such as iron and nickel as catalysts. This process requires very little energy to remove hydrogen. The research is published in the journal Nature Communications. Metals like iron and nickel are used in this process of separating hydrogen from water. They are found in large quantities on earth.

Until now, precious metals such as ruthenium, platinum, and iridium were used in the 'water-splitting' process. They will now be replaced by inexpensive metals such as iron and nickel, which will now serve as catalysts in the process. In water-splitting, two electrodes charge an electric in water, which separates hydrogen from oxygen and this energy is used as fuel.
