NEW DELHI: The Airport Authority of India (AAI) announced on Wednesday that more than half of the construction on this Rs 242 crore project has already been finished, saying Ayodhya will have an airport by next summer. The airport's design reflects the pilgrim city's spiritual character, which is projected to draw thousands of ardent followers. The terminal, which is 6,000 square metres in size, can accommodate six lakh passengers annually and 300 passengers at peak hours.

The design of the upcoming airport at Ayodhya will match with the idea and spirit of Ram Mandir, invoking a sense of spirituality and generating a sense of place for all passengers reaching and departing from the airport.

The Airports Authority of India has taken on the task of developing the airport for civil aviation operations so as to meet the demands of the local populace as well as pilgrims and give direct access to Ayodhya, the significant religious destination.

According to officials, nearly 52% of the project's development work has already been finished, and the whole project work is anticipated to be finished by June 2023.

As the first of the seven most significant pilgrimage sites (Mokshdayini Sapt Puris), Ayodhya draws tourists from all over the world and has been experiencing a remarkable increase in travellers.

The construction of a terminal building and the improvement of airside facilities, such as the widening and expansion of the runway, are both included in the Rs 242 crore airport development project. The six lakh passenger handling capacity of the new terminal building, which has a total space of 6,000 sq m, is intended to handle 300 passengers during peak hours.
