New Delhi: The Union Cabinet meeting will be held in the evening today, December 16.
The Union Cabinet, presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave its approval last month on November 2 to rename Greenfield Airport at Hollongi, Itanagar as "Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar."
According to a statement from the Union Cabinet, the State Government of Arunachal Pradesh passed a resolution renaming the airport "Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar," reflecting the reverence of the locals for the Sun (Donyi) and the Moon (Polo) as a representation of the State's traditions and rich cultural heritage.
In January 2019, the Indian government gave "In-principle" approval for the construction of Hollongi Greenfield Airport. At a cost of Rs. 646 crore, the project is being constructed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) with assistance from the Central Government and the State Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
It is pertinent to note that the government had announced to support fabs in the country by providing up to 50% percent of the project cost provided the investment is up to Rs 12,000 crore. But this cap will be now removed and the moves are likely to give a boost to companies that are looking to invest in the semiconductor policy of India.
