AGARTALA:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to launch the campaign for the forthcoming Tripura assembly election.

The PM is set to attend a meeting on December 18 in Shillong, Meghalaya, where the chief ministers of all the northeastern states would be present, the official sources confirmed. Modi will fly to Agartala in a special aircraft at about 1.30 p.m. with Tripura CM Manik Saha by his side to meet with PM Awas Yojana recipients.

"The cabinet has not yet finalised or reviewed the PM's visit's exact schedule. The PM will reportedly spend three hours in Agartala, introduce a few initiatives from the stadium, and then address a crowd. The PM will spend three hours in Agartala, launch a few projects from the stadium and then address a gathering. No other meetings with the cabinet or state party functionaries have been scheduled yet,” said a senior official of the state administration.

The state government has directed the district magistrate to select the beneficiaries who will interact with Prime Minister.  Mega rallies for the opposition CPM and TIPRA Motha have already taken place there. BJP reportedly waited to ensure a huge turnout to beat the previous opposition rallies.

According to police sources, the C ongress has also arranged a rally for the same location for December 21 as a warm-up for the rally that party leader Priyanka Gandhi will be holding on January 8 of next year.

In the next weeks, the state government will also unveil a number of rewards for youths, women, and government workers. Before the election, there have been several different strategies used to weaken the opposition. The public would undoubtedly vote us back into power based on our performance, according to BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee.
