New Delhi: Today means Thursday (December 15) is the death anniversary of India's first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Although Sardar Patel is remembered for many reasons, but the most prominent among them is his important role in uniting independent India. On the death anniversary of Sardar Patel, many politicians including PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute.

PM Narendra Modi paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his death anniversary and remembered Patel's everlasting contribution to India. The PM tweeted, "I pay tribute to Sardar Patel on his death anniversary and remember his everlasting contribution to India, especially in uniting our nation and accelerating all-round development."

Sardar Patel was born on 31 October 1875 in the Kheda district of Gujarat. He died on 15 December 1950 due to a heart attack in Mumbai. As a Home Minister, he merged about 562 small and big princely states of the country into India. By doing so, he played an important role in uniting Indians. He always used to say, "In tough times, cowards look for excuses, while brave men find a way out."
