Today is the 72nd death anniversary of India's Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He died on December 15, 1950, in Mumbai. He was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was born on October 31, 1875, in Nadiad, Gujarat. He went to London to study as a barrister and returned to Ahmedabad to practice law. Inspired by the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi, he took part in India's freedom movement. Sardar Patel's first and greatest contribution to the freedom movement was in the Kheda struggle in 1918. He also successfully led the peasant movement in the Bardoli Satyagraha in 1928.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India. After independence, his contribution to the creation of a united India by unifying the native states cannot be forgotten. He created Indian unity by merging 562 small and big princely states into the Indian Union. Mahatma Gandhi gave Sardar Patel the title of Iron Man. A 182-meter (597 ft) tall iron statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was inaugurated in front of the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Narmada in Gujarat. It is the tallest statue in the world. It was devoted to the nation on October 31, 2018. The height of the Statue of Liberty is just 93 meters. Sardar Patel died on December 15, 1950, in Mumbai. In 1991, Sardar Patel was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna.
