NEW DELHI: Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Wednesday that the Ayushman Bharat card will now come with the logos of both the Centre and the state. All states barring Delhi, West Bengal and Odisha, have agreed on this, the Health Minster said.

According to representatives of the health ministry, up until this point, the Ayushman Bharat card - or simply Ayushman card -- issued to qualified beneficiaries solely had the Center's emblem. Since 40% of the finances needed to implement the system are provided by the states, and the remaining 60% is covered by the centre, many states had raised objections to this.

This initiative is not political. Our primary goal is to help the less fortunate through the programme. Because of this, our government has chosen to use co-branding,  health minister Mandaviya said.

The largest health assurance programme in the world, Ayushman Bharat PM-Jan Aarogya Yojana (JAY), seeks to provide over 10.74 crore poor and vulnerable households with a health cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation (approximately 50 crore beneficiaries).

Most states and union territories have embraced the co-branding principles. 29 of the 33 states have already enacted co-branding regulations, while Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan recently agreed to do the same. The final approvals of Tamil Nadu and Telangana are awaited.
