Lucknow: Rampur (Uttar Pradesh): On Saturday night, the Uttar Pradesh police relocated Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam to different jails from Rampur. This move came after Azam Khan, his wife Tanzeem Fatima, and his son Abdullah Azam were convicted by a court in Uttar Pradesh on October 18 in a fake birth certificate case. The court sentenced all three of them to seven years in jail and imposed a fine of ₹15,000 on each.

Azam Khan expressed concerns about their safety as they prepared to leave. He told the media, "Anything can happen to us; we can get encountered in between our journeys." Meanwhile, visuals showed Abdullah Azam being transported in a police van under heavy security. Tanzeem Fatima remained in Rampur jail.

The Additional SP of Rampur, Sansar Singh, explained that Azam Khan was transferred due to security reasons. According to sources, Azam Khan was moved to Hardoi Jail, while Abdullah Azam was relocated to Sitapur Jail.

Commenting on the court's judgment, former DGS (Crime) Arun Saxena stated, "Abdullah Azam Khan had two birth certificates, and Akash Saxena filed an FIR. After an investigation, a charge sheet was filed. The court issued its judgment, finding all three individuals guilty. They were sentenced to a maximum of seven years in prison, with an additional fine of ₹15,000 imposed."

Saxena further clarified that Azam Khan's first birth certificate stated his birth date as January 1, 1993, while the second certificate, created in Lucknow, indicated a birth date of September 30, 1990.

On September 26, the Supreme Court referred the matter to the District Judge of Muradabad to determine the correct date of birth for Azam Khan and requested a finding on this matter for further consideration. The court emphasized that the accurate date of birth was crucial to address the issues at hand, particularly in relation to determining juvenility.
