Dharma Bohra, VPDO (Gram Panchayat Development Officer) of Lamgra block in Almora district gave birth to a newborn in 108 ambulances but the newborn could not be saved due to lack of timely treatment. She died before reaching Haldwani. The pregnant woman was taken to Champawat District Hospital after Tanakpur, Khatima and taken to Haldwani. Pati resident Dharma Bohra (30) wife Pradeep Bohra was referred to Pati Hospital on Monday afternoon and brought to the district hospital. Dr Shweta Kharkwal of the district hospital, who was suffering from pain, was treated by CMS Dr RK Joshi who said that the operation was necessary because of obstructed labor pain.

Because of this, the pregnant was referred to Haldwani Sushila Tiwari Hospital, but she delivered in the ambulance. After being shown in Tanakpur and Khatima hospitals, the lady was taken to Haldwani, but before reaching there, the newborn died on Monday night. Political leaders and bureaucracy have been making many claims to improve health, but frequent deaths raise questions about their claims. There is not a single gynaecologist for pregnant women in the government hospital in this district bordering Nepal.

On average, out of 11305 OPD visits per month in all the hospitals of the district including the district hospital, 3735 cases are related to women, but there is no effective treatment for women. Leave aside 23 small and big government hospitals of the district, the largest district hospital also has no gynaecologist since July 23, 2018. The Director-General of Health has in the last one year transferred the orders of two gynaecologists to Champawat, but no one has joined till now. Not being expert, pregnant women are suffering from treatment to complicated labor. Since 2018, 15 pregnant women and obstetricians and 95 newborns have died. CMO Dr RP Khanduri says that the Directorate has been urged for the deployment of gynaecologists and vacant LMOs.
