HYDERABAD: The Badminton Association of India announced on September 6 that Lakshya Sen, P.V. Sindhu, and the men's doubles team of R. Satwiksairaj and Chirag Shetty would each receive a cash incentive of Rs. 20 lakhs and Rs. 25 lakhs, respectively, for winning gold in their respective categories at the recent Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

It should be noted that the Indian shuttlers had the best performance ever at the CWG, taking home three gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, while the Indian men's shuttlers have three medals to their name from the previous two world championships.

According to BAI president Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, "Our badminton players have been regularly winning accolades for the country and this cash prize is a little attempt to recognise their great achievements over the last two years."
For their efforts, the 10-person mixed team that took home the silver medal in Birmingham will receive a total of Rs. 30 lakh, or Rs. 3 lakh per member, while the eight members of the support staff will receive Rs. 1.5 lakh apiece.

According to BAI Secretary Sanjay Mishra, "Due to the way Indian players have been doing on the international stage, the prize purse has been steadily increasing. We are optimistic that the award money would urge everyone to continue the good job.

Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly, a young women's doubles team that won the bronze medal instead of the gold, would receive Rs. 7.5 lakh in prize money.

Kidambi Srikanth, a former world number one, will receive Rs. 5 lakh for finishing third in the men's singles event in Birmingham and Rs. 10 lakh for his silver-medal performance at the 2021 BWF World Championships in Huelva, Spain.

For winning the men's singles bronze medal in 2021, Lakshya Sen would receive an additional Rs. 5 lakh, while Shetty and Satwik would receive an additional Rs. 7.5 lakh for becoming the first Indian men's doubles duo to win a medal at a global championships in Tokyo last month.

Badminton Association of India plans to continue to encourage the players for their super series performances too, it informed.
