Manama: After Bahrain's PM Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa died on Wednesday, Shah Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has made Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa the country's new PM. Bahrain's official news agency BNA has given information in this regard quoting an executive order issued by the royal family.

84-year-old Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa had been running ill for quite some time and was undergoing treatment in the United States. His name is recorded as the longest major of any government in the world. Bahrain has announced a week's national mourning over his death. According to media reports, the King of Bahrain has made Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa the country's new Prime Minister with immediate effect.

The royal family of Bahrain has the right to appoint the country's PM without consulting Parliament. Regional experts believe that the young crown prince has been made PM only to pacify Bahrain's internal religious discord. Bahrain's Shiite Muslims accused the departed PM of violating their rights.
