Bangalore: Shrikanth Poojary, accused in the riots following the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992, has been granted bail by a court in Hubballi. His advocate, Sanjeev Badasaka, expressed satisfaction with the court's decision, stating that they await the bail conditions' details. Poojary is expected to be released by the following evening.

Earlier, the BJP organized a large protest against the Congress party, labeling it an anti-Hindu government in connection with the case. Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara clarified, in response to the BJP's protest, that Poojary is not currently facing 16 cases, contrary to earlier claims. Parameshwara questioned the BJP's extensive protest for Poojary, emphasizing that the law should treat all individuals equally. He highlighted that the court had examined 26 cases, including Poojary's, and called into question the BJP's stance, considering Poojary's alleged involvement in criminal activities.

Former Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, R Ashoka, challenged the Congress government, pledging to publicly apologize if they could prove Poojary had 16 cases against him. He accused the police of providing false information about Poojary's court proceedings. In response, a Congress delegation filed a complaint against LoP R Ashoka, BJP MLAs Arvind Bellad, Mahesh Tenginakayi, and 40 others, urging action against them for making derogatory statements during a protest against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Poojary, identified as a 'kar sevak' by the BJP, faced arrest in connection with a 31-year-old case related to the riots during the 1992 Ram Janmabhoomi protests. Allegedly involved in a violent protest in Hubballi in December 1992, three of the cases against him were booked for inciting riots and causing harm.
