Amritsar: In honour of Baisakhi, the harvest festival observed in Punjab, a large number of devotees  visited Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar today, April 14. They also took a holy di in the "Sarovar."

Amid tight security, a massive number of devotees reached Anandpur Sahab Gurdwara in Punjab's Rupnagar. In Delhi, a large number of people reached Gurudwara Bangla Sahib and offered prayers on the occasion. All day long, worshippers will offer prayers in the gurudwara.

The spring harvest festival of Baisakhi, which is observed in Punjab and other regions of north India, ushers in the Sikh New Year.

On the occasion of Baisakhi, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann earlier in the day sent greetings and well wishes.
The chief minister of Punjab greeted everyone by saying, "On the holy land of Anandpur Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh Ji created the Khalsa without caste or colour discrimination."

On the occasion of Khalsa Sajna Diwas and Baisakhi, he tweeted, "Many congratulations to all the Sikh Sangats bowing down at Guru's feet." People go to Gurudwaras to celebrate the holiday, ask for blessings, and take part in nagar kirtan. 'Kada prasad' is given out to the worshippers.

The day commemorates the anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh's 1699 foundation of the Khalsa Panth. Guru Gobind Singh ended the division between upper and lower caste communities on this day.
