Manaus, Brazil – Bajaj Auto, India's largest exporter of two and three-wheelers, has launched its first manufacturing plant outside of India. Located in Manaus, this new facility marks a significant milestone for the company, which has primarily relied on distribution partners to manage local operations in its 100 international markets.

Spanning 9,600 square meters in the Bairro Tarumã area, the factory is equipped for engine and vehicle assembly, as well as testing. Initially, it has a production capacity of 20,000 units per year, which can be expanded to 50,000 units annually in the future. The plant will start by manufacturing Dominar models, with plans to introduce Pulsar models later.

Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto, expressed his enthusiasm about the new venture: "Opening our own plant in Brazil significantly boosts our ability to meet local demand. Our Dominar brand has been exceptionally well-received since its launch 18 months ago. With this new manufacturing capability, we can expand our distribution network, introduce new products, and better meet our customers' expectations."

The Brazilian facility will also produce motorcycles for KTM AG, an Austrian company in which Bajaj Auto holds a 48% stake. Additionally, Bajaj Auto has a global partnership with UK-based Triumph to co-develop middle-weight motorcycles. Triumph already has a manufacturing presence in Brazil.

Strategically situated in Manaus, the plant benefits from the area's fiscal incentives and proximity to supply chains and major transportation hubs. According to market research firm IMARC Group, Latin America's two-wheeler market reached 10.6 million units in 2022 and is expected to grow to 23.7 million units by 2028, with a CAGR of 14.2% from 2023 to 2028.
