Bal Gangadhar Tilak, one of the great revolutionaries, was born on this day. Bal Gangadhar Tilak gave his entire life to liberate India. In fact, Bal Gangadhar Tilak gave his entire life to give India independence from the British misrule. He was not only a freedom fighter but also a social reformer, teacher, lawyer, and scholar of Indian history, Sanskrit, Hinduism, mathematics, and astronomy and was considered very prominent. Let me tell all of you that Bal Gangadhar Tilak was born on 23rd July 1856 in a Brahmin family in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. Bal Gangadhar Tilak's father's name was Shri Gangadhar Ramchandra Tilak and his mother's name was Parvati Bai.

He was fond of reading and writing since childhood. He was in the first Indian generation to pursue a modern college education and it was his great scholarship that a large number of people were his followers. At that time, the country had a public love for him and that earned him the title of 'Lokmanya.' In 1871, Balagangadhar Tilak was married to Tapibai, later known as Satyabhamabai. Let me also tell all of you that Bal Gangadhar Tilak was a high-quality teacher, he established many education centers to educate the countrymen. At that time, Bal Gangadhar Tilak brought out two Marathi newspapers called 'Maratha Darpan' and 'Kesari' which became very popular, with a large readership, to inculcate a sense of freedom among the people of the country.

Yes, and in these newspapers, Tilak expressed his views on the brutality of the British and their inferiority complex towards Indian culture. At the same time, he launched a massive nationwide movement to boycott British goods. Let me tell you that Bal Gangadhar Tilak was strongly opposed to injustice and had to go to jail several times for raising his voice against the British through newspapers. Very few people know that Bal Gangadhar Tilak played an important role at the beginning of the famous Ganpati festival celebrated in Maharashtra. Today, a rare statue of Balagangadhar Tilak can be seen in victoria garden which was built by Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. It was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi. Today, Bal Gangadhar Tilak is not in this world, but we will not forget his contributions.
