Aizawl: Mizoram has reported 75 cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. Three of these patients infected with corona have been found to have different corona variants. Dr. Pachuau Lalmalsawma the state's nodal officer and official spokesperson on corona informed that out of about 100 samples, delta variants (B.1.617.2), one-one case of UK alpha (B.1.1.7), and ITA (B.1.525) have been found.

Pachuau Lalmalsawma further said that these samples have been transported for genome sequencing at the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) in Kalyani, West Bengal in June. The Mizoram government is making extensive efforts to locate more variants in the state. He said people have to be extremely careful and strictly follow the guidelines, as different variants of corona already exist in other parts of the state.

The official said that out of 73 delta-format cases, 56 cases have been found in Aizawl, 9 in Lunglei, 5 in Kolacib, and 3 from Serchip. Both cases of alpha and ita strain have been found in Aizawl. Citing a study, Pachuau said the ITA variant is more dangerous, as it required 69 percent of patients to undergo treatment in ICU. He said that the mortality rate in patients infected with delta form has been found to be 0.1 percent, alpha format two percent, and ITA format 2.7 percent.
