Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is set to enhance the travel experience of passengers by commencing trials on two new metro lines in the upcoming month. These lines, Byappanahalli-KR Pura (2.1km) and Kengeri-Challaghatta (2 km), are expected to be fully operational by the end of August 2023, providing commuters with an expanded range of travel options.
Anjum Parwez, the managing director of BMRCL, shared with the media that the trial runs for both sections will commence simultaneously on August 22, 2023. According to reports, the authorities have devised a comprehensive plan to ensure the entire East-West corridor (Purple Line) is fully operational by the specified deadline.
Ahead of the trial run, a test run is scheduled for August 15 to verify the dimensions between the track's center and the nearest structure on both sections. During this phase, a team will transport the metro frame on a trolley to ensure the absence of any structural issues.
Furthermore, Parwez has confirmed that starting from August 22, a trial run with a single six-coach train will be conducted on the Kengeri-Challanghata and Byaphanahalli-KR Pura metro sections. Additionally, BMRCL is preparing the necessary paperwork for inspection by the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for both sections.
Presently, the Purple Line spans a distance of 39.4 km, connecting Whitefield (Kadugodi) to the KR Pura section and Byaphanahalli to Kengeri. The missing section between KR Pura and Byappanahalli has inconvenienced daily commuters traveling to locations such as Mahadevapura, ITPB, and Kadugodi. Once the new section becomes operational, it will offer commuters traveling in Whitefield and neighboring areas more options and convenient access, as per reports.
