New Delhi: Bangladesh finally registered their first Test win over New Zealand. Bangladesh created history on Wednesday at the Ground of Mount Maunganui. In the first Test of the current two-Test series, they thrashed New Zealand by 8 wickets. With this, Bangladesh has won the first Test against the Kiwis in their 21-year Test history.

This win is also important for Bangladesh because they have beaten New Zealand at home. This is Bangladesh's first win in New Zealand in any format. The second Test of the series will begin in Christchurch from January 9. Bangladesh now has a golden chance to win the Test series for the first time against the Kiwis. New Zealand was bowled out for just 169 in their second innings on the final day of the Mount Maunganui Test. Pacer Ibadat Hussain top-scored for Bangladesh with 6 wickets. Taskin Ahmed also took 3 wickets. Mehdi Hasan Miraj picked up a wicket.

Bangladesh lost 2 wickets (42/2) to the target of 40 runs to win. New Zealand scored 328 runs in the first innings of the Test match, while Bangladesh scored 458 runs to take a 130-run lead. Bangladesh won the Test against New Zealand 21 years later (2001-2022) in their 16th Test. By then they had lost 12 Tests against New Zealand, while 3 Tests were drawn.
