Kolkata: An hourly informal meeting was held between West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee and Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina. Many bilateral issues between the two leaders were also discussed during this meeting in Kolkata. However, the issues discussed in the meeting were not disclosed. Sources reveal that during the meeting, many issues including the sharing of Teesta River water were raised by Bangladesh.

The two countries are willing to enter into an agreement on the Teesta River water sharing since September 2011, while West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has been consistently opposed to this agreement. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who came to Kolkata to express her country's desire to continue 'excellent relations' with neighboring countries, said on Friday that relations between India and Bangladesh are in the best state today.

PM Hasina said after meeting with West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee that, 'We share an excellent relationship. I think our mutual relationship is in the best state. We want a good relationship with all our neighbors.' After the meeting, Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh will always remember India's cooperation during its freedom struggle. Friendly and cordial relations should develop between the two countries.
