Dhaka: Bangladesh on Thursday approved the purchase of three crore doses of the covid vaccine developed by Corona's European pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca and Oxford University from India. This vaccine named Kovild has been developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII). According to media reports, the Bangladesh Drug Regulator Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) has authorized Bemesco Pharmaceuticals Limited to import and distribution the corona vaccine from India.

In the first six months of the first phase, Beximco will buy 50 lakh vaccine doses every month. Dgda Deputy Director MD Salahuddin has said that Bemesco Pharma can now import and distribute the corona vaccine from India. The company will first supply the vaccine to meet the needs of the government. Thereafter, it can supply vaccines to private hospitals approved by the government.

Earlier on Monday, the Bangladesh government had issued a no objection certificate (NoC) on the emergency use of the Corona vaccine of Oxford-AstraZeneca. After Britain authorized the vaccine on Wednesday, India's drug regulator approved the vaccine for emergency use on Friday.
