Islamist groups in Bangladesh have intensified threats against Hindu minorities, particularly followers of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Tensions have escalated as radical groups took to the streets, chanting slogans against India, Hindus, and ISKCON. Demonstrators reportedly shouted “Pakistan Zindabad” and called for the destruction of ISKCON temples. These temples, which have historically supported communities, including during times of natural disasters like floods, are now under direct threat.

Radharamn Das, Vice President and spokesperson for ISKCON, expressed his concerns on social media, revealing disturbing reports of plans to abduct, torture, and kill ISKCON devotees. He highlighted a disturbing plot to behead ISKCON monks and devotees, fearing for their safety. “This horrific plan to behead ISKCON monks and devotees is openly circulating, and we fear for their safety. Immediate intervention is critical to prevent these violent actions,” Das said in his post.

Taslima Nasreen, a well-known author and social activist, also condemned the growing violence, drawing attention to the role of the extremist group Hefazat-e-Islam in fueling these tensions. Nasreen stated that Hefazat-e-Islam, based in Chittagong, has been calling for a ban on ISKCON. She shared on social media: “Today, their slogan was: ‘Catch one ISKCON member, then slaughter.’ Hefazat-e-Islam has called for terrorism. They want to kill ISKCON members.”

Nasreen questioned the rationale behind the calls for banning ISKCON, a globally respected Hindu organization that promotes peaceful religious practices. “Is ISKCON a terrorist organization that it should be banned?” she asked, emphasizing the intolerance of extremists who cannot tolerate religious diversity. “In Bangladesh, there is a large number of Islamists and jihadists who cannot tolerate people of other religions,” she added.

The violence against Bangladesh’s Hindu minority has escalated since Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ouster in August, with Hindu communities facing increased persecution amid rising Islamist influence. The situation has sparked fear and raised alarms about the country's political and social future under growing radical pressures.
