A new development has surfaced in the ongoing Jio-Hotstar controversy as a website named "Jiostar.com" has appeared online, displaying a "coming soon" teaser. This suggests that "Jio Star" might be the new branding for the streaming service following the anticipated merger between Viacom18 and Disney-Star, which is expected to be finalized by Tuesday.
Sources indicate that Reliance Industries will likely retain Disney+ Hotstar as its main streaming platform post-merger. Under the planned integration, JioCinema is expected to merge with Disney+ Hotstar, establishing it as the central platform for the newly combined entity. Previously, Reliance had considered various strategies for its streaming business, including merging Disney+ Hotstar with JioCinema or maintaining two distinct platforms—one for sports and another for entertainment.
In an earlier twist to the story, Dubai-based siblings Jainam and Jivika offered the domain name "JioHotstar.com" to "Team Reliance" for free. The domain was initially acquired by the siblings from a Delhi-based app developer, who had originally hoped to sell it to Reliance to support his education.
