In one of the major public sector banks, a Bank of India is going to close about 700 ATMs to reduce the cost. Apart from these, the bank will also consider shutting down of 300 other ATMs. By February 2018, the bank can implement the plan to shut down these ATM machines. 

According to media reports, the bank is also considering the customer's requirements and facilities before deciding to shut the ATM. In April this year, the bank closed 90 ATM machines. It is significant that in order to reduce the NPA, the Reserve Bank of India has initiated immediate corrective action against Bank of India.

The quality of the bank's assets has been spoiled due to high NPA. By the end of September 2017, the total NPA of Bank of India increased to 12.62% and Net NPA to 6.47%. 

Bank of India had already reduced the number of ATMs in the country. In December last year, the number of ATM machines was 7,807, which was reduced to 7,717 in April. It has been said by the managing director and chief executive officer of the BOI Dinabandhu Mohapatra that the bank has been working on such plans for a long time.
