The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the PSLV-C59/PROBA-3 mission today, December 4, 2024, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The launch is scheduled for 4:08 PM IST, marking a significant milestone in space exploration.

This mission is a joint effort between ISRO and the European Space Agency (ESA). The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)-C59 will carry satellites weighing around 550 kilograms, which will be placed into a highly elliptical orbit.

The PROBA-3 mission is a demonstration project by the ESA, known as an “In-Orbit Demonstration (IOD) mission.” The spacecraft's primary goal is to showcase the capabilities of advanced space technologies.

In an update on social media, ISRO shared, “Liftoff Day is Here! PSLV-C59, demonstrating ISRO's expertise, is ready to deliver ESA’s PROBA-3 satellites into orbit. This mission, backed by NSIL and powered by ISRO’s engineering excellence, highlights the strength of international collaboration. The mission will involve two spacecraft: the Coronagraph Spacecraft (CSC) and the Occulter Spacecraft (OSC). These will be launched together in a "stacked configuration," one on top of the other.

The PSLV-C59 rocket, known for its reliability, features four stages, including liquid-fuel stages, and has the capability to lift approximately 320 tonnes. Since its debut in 1994, the PSLV has established itself as India’s first and most successful launch vehicle, with a long track record of successful missions.
