Banks promoting vaccination, 'Get corona vaccine and get more interest'

New Delhi: Some government banks are offering higher interest rates on Fixed Deposit (FD) deposits with a view to increasing corona virus vaccination, however, the offer is for a limited period. UCO Bank said it will offer 30 basis points or 0.30 per cent higher interest rate at a FD of 999 days for applicants who have taken at least one dose of covid vaccine.

"We are also taking small steps to increase the vaccination drive," a bank official said. We are offering UCOVAXI-999 till 30th September for a limited period. The Central Bank of India had also recently launched the Immune India Deposit Scheme with an additional interest rate of 25 basis points at the card rate applicable to vaccinators. The bank said in a statement that the maturity of the new offer is 1,111 days. The Health Ministry said that the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses in the country has crossed 23.59 crore.

On the other hand, PM Modi has announced that for all those above the age group of 18 years, the Centre will now buy the vaccine and give it to the states for free. From 21st June, yoga day, all people across 18 th will get free immunization from the Centre. PM Modi said don't spread confusion over the vaccine and play with people's lives. The Central Government is likely to spend Rs 450 billion this financial year on corona vaccine. The amount will be about Rs.100 billion more than the amount announced in the Budget.
