New Delhi: the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has acted in response to the Rajasthan Association's query concerning the certification of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed film Padmavati.

The BBFC is Britain's censor board stated that "freedom of choice must be respected" and that filmmakers are “free to see the sights narratives based on historical events” and to interpret them as they desire.

The BBFC has also asserted that there was “nothing” in the film that was "intolerable" under the 12A category. The BBFC has approved the Deepika Padukone-starrer film for a December 1 release under the 12A category.

Sources reported that the Rajasthan alliance was now thinking over the option of approaching UK court in links with the topic.

In India, on the other hand, a number of BJP-ruled states have already banned the screening of Padmavati, including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Padmavati's release, planned for December 1 in India, has been postponed as well after the Censor Board rejected to clear the movie saying that its paperwork is shortened.

The controversy over the movie had taken an ugly turn after members of the Rajput Karni Sena, a fringe outfit in Rajasthan, threatened to “cut off Padukone’s nose and behead Bhansali” if the film released.
