After Shashak Manohar stepped down as the president of BCCI, the date to announce new president and secretary comes closer. With the probability of current BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur to take over as the president, Ajay Shirke and Brijesh Patel are being considered for the post. Ajay Shirke serves as the president of Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) whereas Brijesh Patel is the secretary of Karnataka State Cricket Association.

The BCCI has assembled a special general body meeting on 22nd May in Mumbai to elect its new president. The newly elected president will then choose the new board secretary. If Anurag Thakur is to be elected as one of the six member associations from the east zone, as is being considered the best option, he will have to propose the board secretary's name.

More than one nomination will lead to elections and as far as Thakur is concerned, he has the backing from east zones. The last date to file nominations is May 21 and Thankur has been reported to call members around the country stating his interest in the post. . Thakur will have to resign from the BCCI secretary post if he is to contest for president’s post.

The former BCCI president stepped down as he contested for the post of ICC chairman. He was elected for the post two days after his resignation.
