New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India, ie BCCI, has decided that this season the Vijay Hazare Trophy will be held instead of Ranji Trophy. Actually, the global epidemic of coronavirus has changed both the condition and direction of the game in the country. With the 14th season of IPL scheduled to be held in April, the BCCI has only two months left to host any domestic tournament.

Keeping all this in mind, the BCCI had asked all the associations to give their opinion on the holding of either the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Ranji Trophy. Various state cricket associations have given their reply on the suggestion sought by board secretary Jai Shah, on the basis of which, this season, besides Vijay Hazare, only the Senior Women's ODI and Under-19 Veenu Mankad Trophy will be held.

Although the dates of any tournament have not been announced yet, it is estimated that the Hazare Trophy could start in the second and third week of February. As per media reports, most of the state associations except Andhra Pradesh are in favor of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Most unions are agreeing on shorter format tournaments.
