Mumbai: The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has now moved the High Court seeking a rally at Shivaji Park. The Shiv Sena has filed an application in the court seeking an order from the BMC to take an early decision on its applications for August 22 and 26. The party said they want to hold a rally at Shivaji Park in Dadar on October 5 and a decision should be taken before that to ensure smooth preparations. The Shiv Sena has been holding rallies here since its six-decade-long history. An application has been filed in the high court seeking an urgent hearing by party secretary Anil Desai.

The Bombay High Court bench will hear it on Thursday. The application was filed on behalf of advocate Joel Carlos before a bench of Justices RD Dhanuka and Kamal Khata. The petition states that the Shiv Sena has been organising rallies at Shivaji Park since 1966. He told the Shiv Sena that the workers have been reaching this ground without any invitation for the rally. In such a situation, it would be wrong to ban the rally here and it should be allowed soon. The Sena said the state government had issued a notification in January 2016 and allowed Shivaji Park to be booked for non-sporting activities as well.

In his application, Desai said the Shiv Sena had applied to the BMC for the rally on August 22 and again on August 26, but no decision has been taken so far. He said that more than 20 days have passed since the application was made and we need preparations for the event. He demanded the court to order the BMC Commissioner to take a decision on this. The Shiv Sena said in the application that the BMC has no reason not to allow the rally in the park. In such a situation, he should take an immediate decision on this. After hearing the Shiv Sena's side, the court has decided to hear the matter on Thursday.
