Ahead of PM Modi's 'Kashmir meeting, Pak's External Affairs Minister Qureshi said, 'Will oppose the change..'

New Delhi: Pakistan on Saturday said it will oppose any decision by India to divide Kashmir and change its demographics. Pakistan's Foreign Office said in a statement that External Affairs Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that India should refrain from taking any further illegal steps in Kashmir after the August 5, 2019 action. Pakistan's statement comes at a time when the Central Government has invited 14 leaders of Jammu and Kashmir to attend a high-level meeting chaired by the PM.

It is being said that the meeting will chalk out a roadmap for holding assembly elections in the Union Territory. Qureshi said Pakistan has completely opposed India's move of August 5, 2019 and has taken up the matter in all international for a including the UN Security Council. He said Pakistan takes a pledge to oppose any move by India that divides Jammu and Kashmir to change the demographics of the region.

Qureshi said he has conveyed India's possible move to the Chairman of the Security Council and the UN Secretary General. The BJP on Saturday said it is confident that all leaders of Nyota Jammu and Kashmir will participate in "important" discussions to discuss future proceedings for the Union Territory. The meeting will be held with the PM in Delhi. BJP's Jammu and Kashmir unit president Ravinder Raina, who was among the invitees, said the meeting convened by the PM is in accordance with the wishes of the heads of various political parties who were asking him for time and had been demanding such a meeting for a long time.
