Chennai: Former AIADMK minister M Manikandan has been arrested by chennai city police from Bengaluru. In fact, the Minister is accused of allegedly raping a Malaysian woman and aborting her as well as making criminal threats. In the case, Tamil Nadu Police said, "They had been evading arrest since the Madras High Court refused anticipatory bail. Earlier last Wednesday, dismissing Manikandan's plea, Madras High Court Judge Abdul Quddos underlined the seriousness of the alleged allegation and the personality of the accused and said, "The investigation of the case is at the primary level and the anticipatory bail plea is not eligible.''
At the same time, the judge also said, "The case is about the alleged crime committed by a former minister which is of serious nature and prima facie fit to file an FIR." It was also said, "It is necessary to detain and interrogate the petitioner to collect information. If granted bail, he may use his influence to avoid serious investigations.''
As per the information revealed, the former Minister has been booked under Section 506 (i) (Criminal Intimidation), 313 (Abortion without Consent of Women), 332 (Voluntarily Hurt) and Section 67A of IPC besides Section 376 (Punishment for Rape). The victim says she was in a relationship with former minister Manikandan for the past four years during which Manikandan refrained from talking about marriage.
