Moscow: According to a statement released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Saturday, Beijing appreciates Moscow's support for the "One China" principle and disagreement with actions that violate China's sovereignty in light of the deteriorating security situation in the region around Taiwan.

Outside of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) events in Phnom Penh on Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met.

In a statement, the ministry said that Wang Yi "completely outlined China's justified position on the Taiwan issue, and praised that Russia in the first place reaffirmed its strong support for the "One China" principle, and opposed any actions that violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China."

Wang continued by saying that Moscow's stance showed the extent of China and Russia's strategic cooperation.

The US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry, is a clear provocation in the spirit of the US aggressive line on the total containment of China.
It emphasised that China has the authority to exercise its right to defend its sovereignty.
