Kolkata: Elections are still underway in several states of the country and west Bengal is going to polls in the eighth and final phase today. Polling is underway in 35 seats spread over 4 districts today. The special thing is that in the phases so far, a direct contest was seen between the TMC and the BJP, but in the final phase, there will be a tough contest between the TMC-Congress and the Left alliance. All parties are keeping a close watch on Muslim voters in the process.

The 4 cities going to polls today include 11 seats in Birbhum, 6 in Malda, 11 in Murshidabad, 7 in Kolkata North. A total of 84 lakh 77 thousand 728 voters will exercise their franchise today. There are 43 lakh 55 thousand 853 male voters and 41 lakh 21 thousand 735 female voters. 158 transgenders will also vote in this phase. More importantly, polling will also be held at booth no.

A case of bombing has come to light near Mahajati Sadan Auditorium Auditorium in north Kolkata during the same eighth phase of polling. The Election Commission has also sought full details of the incident. The fate of several VIP voters is to be decided in the eighth phase. TMC candidate Abdur Razzak Molla is pitted against BJP candidate Chandan Mandal and CPM's Saiful Islam from Jalangi assembly in Murshidabad. In Kolkata, Sadhan Pandey is pitted against Kalyan Choubey of BJP and CPM candidate from Maniktala Rupa Bagchi.
