Bengal by-election: TMC workers beat BJP candidate with kick and punches, threw them in bushes

Kolkata: Voting is going on for the by-election in Karimpur assembly constituency of West Bengal on Monday. Meanwhile, BJP candidate Jayaprakash Majumdar was attacked by TMC activists with slaps, kicks, punches and thrown into the roadside bush. However, TMC has denied involvement of its workers in the incident.

The incident took place outside the Khiaghat Islampur Primary School booth under Pipalkhola police station in Nadia district, when Majumdar reached there after receiving information that the elder in a house for a 'suspicious' feast about 10 meters from the booth, food is being cooked on a scale. Majumdar is the vice president of the current state BJP.

He found 10-11 people busy cooking and claimed that the food was being prepared for the polling officers. However, officials denied any such information. Majumdar informed the administration officials and election officials after coming out of the booth, but when he was standing on the road, some people surrounded him and started protesting. The protesters then grabbed the collar of the BJP candidate and pushed him into the bush. As soon as Majumdar attempted to stand up, another protestor kicked him.
