Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has dealt a severe blow to the West Bengal government. A bench of acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal has directed the police to hand over the government's second autopsy report and DNA report to the CBI in the post-poll violence case in West Bengal. A five-judge bench of the Kolkata High Court already ordered the police to conduct a second autopsy report and DNA test on the brutal murder of BJP activist Abhijit Sarkar.
According to reports, the High Court has ordered a CBI inquiry into crimes against women, including murder and rape, in post-election violence cases. With this, the court has handed over the investigation of all other cases to the SIT. The SIT will be formed under the leadership of IPS officers Suman Bala Sahu, Soumen Mitra, and Ranbir Kumar and It will be monitored by a retired Supreme Court judge.
The Calcutta High Court had ordered to conduct a DNA test of BJP activist Abhijit Sarkar at Command Hospital, who was killed in the violence that erupted after the elections in July 2021. It had also ordered the administration to submit its inquiry report to the court within 7 days. Abhijeet Sarkar's wife had said that the mob tied CCTV camera wire around her neck. They were beaten with bricks and sticks. The mob tore his head and brutally murdered him in front of his mother. His mother fell unconscious on the spot when she saw her son being slaughtered in front of her eyes.
