KOLKATA: West Bengal will start revising its voter lists on November 9 and work on it would last until December 8, an informed official  said.  The state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) had called an all-party meeting earlier on Wednesday to discuss the issue.

The process would be more involved this year because of the state panchayat elections slated for next year, according to the CEO's office representative, who also noted that the adjustment in the voters list has a special significance this year.

Booth-level officers will be on duty every Saturday and Sunday at every booth in each Assembly constituency following the start of the revision process to take any and all applications.

The names of people who will have reached the age of 18 on or before January 1, 2023, are eligible to be added to the voter list. The final and updated voter list will be made public on January 5, 2023. The Trinamool Congress, BJP, and CPI(M) have all taken the process of revising the voters' list very seriously in the meanwhile.

The top leaders of each party have instructed their local affiliates to station personnel at the booths on the days that the authorities would be accepting applications.

However, the Trinamool Congress outperforms its rivals in terms of organisational power in assuring the presence of the party officials in the booths.

While the CPI(M) lacks personnel, local BJP organisers lack actual participation experience in the revision process.
