CHANDIGARH: Bhagwant Mann, the chief minister of Punjab, has offered the Indian government 1,000 acres in the Fatehgarh Sahib district for the construction of a textile park under the PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel Parks (PM MITRA) programme.
The Chief Minister said he aims set up this massive project on the sacred territory of Fatehgarh Sahib in a letter to Union Textile Minister Piyush Goyal. Once this project is launched, he believes Punjab would become the nation's "textile hub."
In a similar vein, Mann unambiguously asserted that this initiative will also place the state on a high development trajectory for industrial growth.
The Chief Minister said that the ambitious plan will aid in luring investors on the one hand while opening up new employment opportunities for young people on the other. He said that the plan to establish seven PM MITRAs across the nation in collaboration with the state governments has been authorised by the Indian government.
Mann informed the Union Minister that the state government is prepared to establish the textile park in Fatehgarh Sahib under this scheme.
The Chief Minister stated unequivocally that when creating this Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel Park, all environmental clearances and standards established by the federal and state pollution control boards would be followed.
One of the fundamental conditions for the project, according to him, is that the interested state government have quick access to continuous and free of encumbrance land parcels of 1,000 acres.
