New Delhi: Employees of the public company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have sat on hunger strike on Monday. Employees have alleged that they are being forced to take voluntary retirement (VRS) by intimidating them. Employee unions have appealed to BSNL employees from all over the country to go on strike on Monday.
More than 50 percent of BSNL employees are associated with the union that has called for hunger strike. Their charge is that the company management is threatening the employees to reduce the retirement age to 58 years and many employees are being forced to take VRS. All India Unions and Associations of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (AUAB) Convenor P Abhimanyu told the media that the employees who are not taking VRS are being transferred far away.
He said, 'We are not opposing VRS. Those who want this and feel that it is beneficial for them, they should choose it. But it is not beneficial for lower-level employees, while they are also being forced to take VRS or accept the retirement age of 58 years. This is a plan to forcibly serve.
